Hostal Sunset Ibiza

My wallet had disappeared by the next morning, and earlier I’d noticed a nearly full, expensive bottle of aftershave was gone too. When I told reception about the aftershave, the man there said he’d try to find out what happened, but I never heard back. The staff were no help at all. We’d been told at check-in that our room wouldn’t be cleaned because we were only staying briefly, and we were fine with that. Then, the day before checkout, we returned to find it had been cleaned and our belongings were missing. At reception, they’d also tried to charge us an extra €100, claiming there were three of us, though there were only ever two, which is why we booked a double room. Make sure your things are locked away if you stay here. Even with the room door locked, they didn’t feel safe. A terrible experience, and I won’t be back.

For €47 a night, this felt like a bargain, especially with the beach only a two-minute walk away. The receptionist was friendly and polite, and the cleaners were around throughout the day keeping things tidy. The corridors had CCTV, and the front entrance locks at midnight, after which you need a code. We were on the ground floor, where the doors use key cards, and ours wouldn’t lock at first. I went to reception and the woman fixed it straight away, with no trouble after that. The upper floors seem to use regular keys. Our key stopped working at 11am on checkout day, which I thought was great. You can hear sound through the thin walls, but the only time I noticed it was around 4am when people came back. They weren’t being loud, the sound just carries. I was already awake, and I don’t think it would have woken me while I slept because the bed was so comfortable. I can see why some people left low ratings, but we had a great stay.

Ask for the door code if you expect to be out late, since reception isn’t staffed all the time. The people at the desk were very friendly when they were there. The rooms have safes, towels, plenty of space, and good beds, along with air conditioning and balconies. They were clean, though there’s no daily room cleaning. You can hear through the walls, but it didn’t bother us much. A great hostel in Ibiza.

The staff were nice and the place was very clean, and it’s dog friendly 😉. For Ibiza prices, the hotel is nice enough, but the basics in our room should work: the toilet kept dripping and the sink leaked onto the floor. There was no bathroom window either, so it got far too humid. Some renovations are still needed.
