There’s no parking or dinner, and the rooms are very old. The bathroom is cramped, with just one set of towels for a room with a wide bed. The towel warmer is rusty. The shower tray sits about 30 cm above the bathroom floor, and getting into its narrow opening means climbing a step, which feels dangerous. The walls are so thin you can hear your neighbour doing whatever they’re doing. The air conditioning barely works, so you have to keep the windows open. In wet Cantabria the heat feels even worse, and then there’s the traffic noise. This doesn’t meet the standard of even a two-star hotel, though it’s sold as a three-star place. I’m paying €110 a night, including breakfast, which I haven’t tried yet. Based on what I’ve seen, I’m not expecting much from it.

The room was small but smart, and breakfast was self-service. The staff were professional and attentive. After checking out other options, I chose Hotel Arha and think it’s the best value for money in Santander.

A very central hotel in beautiful Santander. It’s near both the train and bus stations, and easy to reach from the airport too.

Most of the staff are great, especially the young male receptionist and the female receptionist. One staff member, though, isn’t very polite. It’s an okay place.
