Hostel Villa Miguela

The staff were friendly and helpful, and everything was spotlessly clean, including the many toilets and showers. The sleep units are roomy and cosy, with curtains for privacy. Downstairs there are a few shared spaces for eating and heating up food. It’s a very well-run hostel on a quiet street just beyond the city centre. Highly recommend it.

The showers barely had any pressure and ran on a timer. The male toilet also serves as a hallway, and staff tended to open the doors while people were inside. On my first day there was no toilet paper for hours because the cleaning staff hadn’t restocked it and nobody else was around. During morning cleaning I heard staff arguing and complaining about each other. I met two receptionists: one turned away when I said hello, and the other was sarcastic and almost rude. After I left, they called to say I should return the access card to reception instead of leaving it on the bunk, but didn’t mention that I’d accidentally left some belongings there. Not worth it. Avoid.

I had a private double room with its own bathroom, and it was a great deal. The room was lovely, the staff were friendly and easy to communicate with, and the location was perfect, close to the beach and restaurants. I’d definitely recommend it.

The neighborhood is cute and quiet, and the hostel is clean. Those were the only positives for me. In August there was no air conditioning or ventilation in the rooms. Even with the windows open and the fan running, I felt no air at all and woke up sweating every night, even though I usually feel cold. As a woman traveling alone, I felt very uncomfortable around the other guests. It wasn’t a social hostel, and there were a lot of creepy older men staying there. I didn’t feel comfortable going anywhere except my room. The towel I got was stained and dirty, and the woman helping me couldn’t find a spare. What hostel doesn’t have extra towels? There was nobody on staff after 6 pm, which left me wondering what guests should do if there’s an emergency or they need help. The bathrooms on my floor had no toilet paper, broken doors and toilets, and a light that kept going out. The machine downstairs had no bottled water, and supplies didn’t seem to be restocked or maintained regularly. I’ve lived in Spain for six years and stayed in a lot of hostels. This was by far the worst. Do better. Gracias!
