Micampus Santander

Five months in, staying here feels like one of my best decisions. The Micampus staff have gone above and beyond to meet what I need and expect, and I’m completely satisfied. On my first day I thought it looked beautiful, and the staff were friendly. I’m hoping it continues to be a great experience, and I’ll update again each month 😊

There’s an electric stove in the room, which was clean, though the little shampoo and shower gel packets don’t go far and there’s no hand soap, so bring your own. I stayed for one night while walking the Camino del Norte, about a 10 to 15 minute walk from the route. Check-in is officially at 4 PM, but the room might be ready a couple of hours sooner.

The only real upsides for students are the gym and the fact that the rooms are fairly new. My room’s AC never worked, and even after I reported it, nothing happened for five months. The windows only open a little, and some rooms apparently have the same problem. The rooms are small, the kitchens are badly equipped, and staff, especially at reception, were extremely unfriendly. You can’t bring friends to your room after 9 pm or drink alcohol, and you’re locked into contracts lasting several months. There’s also a high deposit. At around €600 a month for a shared room, it feels very expensive for what’s offered. Laundry costs extra, and apart from the gym there’s nothing special. It’s about a 25 minute walk plus a bus ride to the city centre and university. A room in a shared flat downtown costs under €350, often under €300. Students would have a cheaper, nicer time looking on Facebook or Idealista, then paying separately for a better gym if they want one.

The rooms are warm, and it’s a good place, but laundry is expensive.
