Casa Grande Do Bachao

We stayed for three nights and had dinner on two of them. The set menu was €25 per person for three courses, and both meals were excellent, delicious and good value. Breakfast was generous and tasty too. Our superior room was spacious, quiet and had great balcony views. The pool was peaceful, and we were lucky to use it on some warm, sunny afternoons. There are lots of other places to relax, including lounges with antiques and books, plus an honesty bar with a pool table. The staff were friendly and helpful. It’s a lovely country retreat, about 25 minutes from Santiago, on a large estate in beautiful rolling countryside. We plan to return.

The hotel’s decor was nice, the staff were friendly and helpful, and breakfast was decent. But the location was farther out than advertised, about 25 kilometers from Santiago rather than 11. It may suit nature lovers, but without your own transport it’s a poor choice: there is no local service apart from expensive taxis. We also weren’t impressed with cleanliness. The drains smelled bad, and many colleagues said their rooms lacked towels, the advertised personal hygiene items and hair dryers. Cell phones had no signal there, and the phones in the rooms didn’t work, so we couldn’t get assistance that way. The only dinner we ate at the hotel was poor in quality and quantity for the exorbitant price. I don’t think it deserves its online rating, and I wonder how it has so many good reviews.

We had a great time on a quiet weekend getaway. The ambiance was lovely, with an amazing view, and the location is beautiful, about 20 minutes by car from central santiago. The owner, Javier, was great and lovely.

Such an unusual place in a lovely location. It feels like it’s in the middle of nowhere, yet Santiago is still close. We really enjoyed our stay, and the breakfast was lovely too.
