Hotel Praza Quintana

I came to Santiago de Compostela as a pilgrim and booked two hotel nights as a treat. At check-in, the woman at reception told me that if I didn't like the room I could change it the next day, after 3:00 PM. At first it smelled very clean, almost too clean, and I didn't think much of it. In the middle of the night I woke with a headache. The bathroom was extremely damp and smelled strongly of mold. Looking around, I found black mold on the ceiling, in the shower, above the sliding door, on the hairdryer's power cable, and across the shower floor and corners. I then understood the receptionist's comment. I don't think guests should be checked into a room with what I consider toxic mold, which seems like a serious health hazard. The room photos on the website also seemed misleading. Booking.com had given me a completely different impression of the accommodation. The next morning I packed up and went to check out. The woman at the desk was kind and understanding, but couldn't resolve the issue herself, so she called someone who seemed to be the manager. When I showed the manager my photos, she wouldn't properly address the room's condition. She said it was in the basement and it had been raining, as if that made the mold acceptable, and showed little understanding of my situation. She only offered to move me to another room. By then, my two planned days of rest were already ruined. I would have had to check out, wait several hours, and check in again later, which I didn't want to do. There was no compensation offered beyond changing rooms, which I declined. All I wanted was two uninterrupted days without problems. If I worked in hospitality, I would have immediately offered a full refund. A room with black mold is unacceptable and terrible publicity for the hotel. The manager also came across as arrogant and rude toward guests. After walking the entire Camino Francés, this was by far my worst accommodation experience. This happened late 2025.
