Akla Hotel Suites Santillana

We barely saw the owners since entry was by door code, and the lack of guidance was a little frustrating, especially about where and when to get the included breakfast. There was a microwave but no utensils or way to make tea or coffee. Still, the suites were spotless and stylish, with a big comfortable bed and a jacuzzi in each one. The town is right nearby, the facilities are good, and the kids had a great time in the tub. Recommended.

It turned out to be even better than we’d expected!

We had breakfast included, and it was generous, varied, and could be enjoyed in the room whenever we liked. The room itself was spacious, with a really comfortable bed, an amazing jacuzzi, and a separate bathroom with a shower. There’s no in-person reception, but reaching them by phone or WhatsApp was easy and the service was excellent. Everything was just right. We’d absolutely recommend it.

We’ve stayed at Akla Mérida and Akla Badajoz regularly, and this one was a letdown. Getting around by car was awkward because there’s no reception and nowhere to park in town, so we had to leave the car wherever we were going. Our attic room was noisy, with sounds carrying from everywhere. In the other two places we know, it’s normally quiet. The jacuzzi was dirty, the showerhead was black with mold, and only one of the four radiators worked. When we had a problem, the response took a while. The person we reached was friendly, though they had to look up the answer. After we returned to the room, there was no heat at all, and it took more than an hour for someone to come. They eventually moved us to a cleaner room. Breakfast is brought to the room for you to prepare yourself. The upstairs shower wasn’t very clean either, and the downstairs one was slippery. We’ll come back to town, but not to this hotel.
