El Castillo de los Locos Hotel

The waiter was calm, patient, and genuinely kind. He talked me through the options without rushing or trying to sell me anything, just helping me choose. That kind of low-key hospitality is lovely. I had a hearty burrito, just right for the chilly air, followed by a warm torrija. The burrito was simple, honest food, and the dessert had that comforting Spanish sweetness that feels like a memory. I happened to arrive on a rare clear day, with sharp light and a calm sea. From Castillo de los Locos, perched at the edge of Cantabria, the view was beautiful. Later, a storm rolled in from the Atlantic. It was far too cold for a swim or a lazy afternoon on the sand, but I could imagine how lively it must get in summer, with the sun, sparkling sea, busy plates, and conversations carrying into the evening. One bright spell before the storm was enough to make me want to come back.
