Hostal El Levante

There’s a well-kept garden in the middle of Hostel Levante’s unusual horseshoe-shaped layout, and plenty of room to spread out kites and wash gear, which is a real plus for kitesurfers. The rooms were comfortable, well equipped, and surprisingly quiet after a day of sports or exploring. Staff were friendly and helpful, and made us feel at home. It’s conveniently between Los Lances, the main beach, and the city centre, so getting to the beach or going out in the evening is easy. I had a great, relaxing stay in Tarifa and highly recommend the place.

The bed had a deep dip in the middle from being overused, which made it somewhat uncomfortable. Check-in and checkout at the Hostal were very quick thanks to the automated system and key safes. The cleaning service treated my things respectfully and did a good job.

We had a decent-sized, simple, clean room with a very comfortable bed. There’s lots of free parking, a small cafeteria, and daily cleaning. Service was very nice. The hostel is outside the centre on a busy road, so there’s some noise and it’s not walkable into town. On the plus side, the ocean and beach views are great. There were also roosters nearby crowing from around 5am during our stay, so earplugs are worth considering. Still, we had a good stay.

We’d stayed here before and remembered it as basic, though very clean and right by the highway across from the beach. This time we booked just two nights, unsure if returning was a good idea, but got a pleasant surprise: a renovated, functional room with a kitchenette. The workers, especially Silvia, were really nice and helpful, so we came back a few days later and booked a full week. The location near Tarifa is lovely, and it’s a little gem. The trouble came with the bedding. The office told me longer stays wouldn’t get a full room clean every day, mostly concerning the bedding. I was fine with skipping a day or two, but we ended up sleeping three nights on the same sheets. When I politely asked Diego, one of the owners, to change them because there was sand in the bed, he told me to shower before going to bed. That was an unpleasant shock, and he was rude and unapologetic. I wouldn’t return because of that five-minute conversation with Diego. I’ve tried to be fair, though, and the other employees were so kind, which is why I still gave a good rating.
