El Priorato de Trespaderne

We spent two nights here before heading back to the ferry after our main holiday. The hotel feels like staying in a family home, and the building is a stunning conversion of an old priory that has appeared in architectural magazines. The shared spaces are beautifully decorated and relaxed, and the rooms are just as lovely, with very large, comfortable beds. Friendly staff shared recommendations for nearby visits. There's so much history around here, as well as an impressive natural setting. The pool and pretty terrace were perfect for cooling off at the end of the day. This gem alone makes the little-explored part of Spain worth a visit.

It was a bit out of the way, but completely worth it. The house and our room were stunning, and the service was wonderful. We liked it so much that we picked up food to have dinner on the balcony. The sofa bed could be better, but we slept well anyway.

The renovation has made this a really appealing and unusual place to stay. There's not much of interest right here, though, so it's more of a base for travelling around. One thing felt unprofessional: the owner was at breakfast but didn't introduce herself, and spoke with the service staff while guests were there.

Dora made our stay, with her warm, friendly, helpful manner and the tasty breakfast she served. The Merindades area is beautiful, with lots to do and see, and the small city of Frias is a must. We only booked one night but added another. Changing rooms was no trouble, and let us try two different ones. Both were clean with super-comfortable beds, and Room No.1 even has part of the floor made of glass. Dora also welcomed us on arrival, showed us where to park our motorcycles, and gave us a tour of the quirky, beautifully restored 16c Priory. The furnished communal room, terrace, garden, and swimming pool with its fabulous mountain view were all a delight. Thank you Dora x
