Casa de los abuelos

We stayed for 20 days in February 2019, two adults and two minor children, and really liked the house. There are lovely views and hiking routes start right outside. Even in winter, keeping warm wasn’t a problem. On the few cold nights, we just turned on the gas stove. Consider staying here if you’d rather be away from the coastal tourist towns and enjoy beautiful nature more than mainstream sightseeing.

The place is fully fenced, so pets can run around freely. It’s a peaceful spot to unplug, with incredible sea views as the villages below descend towards the Atlantic. Enjoying the private pool and the starry nights made it feel like a quiet haven away from the noise.

It’s a quiet, secluded place, with access along a 1.2 km rocky road that’s better suited to off-road vehicles. The accommodation seems best for summer. The pool and basement are inside the house, and I imagine they stay cool then. In winter, though, I didn’t like the smell. The owner seems to agree, since there are automatic air fresheners.

Juan and Mari were wonderful hosts, always checking what we needed and available if anything came up. The house feels cozy, even on rainy days when it’s easy to forget the rest of the world. When the weather is good, which is often, the pool is lovely. You can also wander around the grounds, explore the little orchards full of fruit trees, or have a barbecue with the cats who often visit, then sit and watch the stars in that magical sky. A special place to completely disconnect.
