Denver Boutique Hotel

The price is fairly reasonable, but the WiFi barely works, measuring about 1mbps on speedometers. There's no air conditioning, the walls are dirty, and the curtain can't be adjusted. The fans and lamps are broken, and the bathrooms don't have soap or toiletries. Might be okay if you just need a one night stand.

The friendly staff and owner were a plus, and the hotel felt very secure, with card-activated lifts. But during my six-night stay in November 2020, the room wasn't ready when I arrived, and basic toiletries were missing. I had to call reception for soap and buy my own toilet paper. The shampoo bottle had already been used and was half full. With the pandemic going on, I'd expected better cleanliness. It was also very cold at night, and getting a blanket was difficult. Reception couldn't give me anything close to one.

The airport transfer worked well, and the drivers were friendly. Staff at the hotel were helpful and pleasant, too. Our family room was spacious, clean, and modern, and the breakfast had a good selection of both cold and hot local dishes. The hotel is in the more traditional Piazza area of Addis Ababa, with easy access around town. I'd highly recommend it for a visit to Ethiopia's capital.

Denver felt like a luxury after the cheap hostel I stayed in, which had intermittent hot water, power cuts with no generator, and no wifi. Here the rooms were spacious, with hot water, steady power, and reasonably strong wifi. The staff were friendly, helpful, and fluent in English. I also liked the breakfast buffet, which offered plenty of western and Ethiopia choices, plus juices, tea, coffee, and milk. Paying by credit card worked, the price was decent, and the location was ideal for the museum and restaurants. The bus station is only a short five-minute drive away. I'll definitely come back.
