Getfam Hotel

The restaurant was a real highlight, with breakfast included in the room price and plenty of great choices for lunch and dinner. We even had room service available around the clock. The staff were so welcoming, and the service, rooms, and amenities were all excellent, from the airport shuttle to the heated pool, spa, and relaxation areas. One of our best stays in Addis, and definitely our favorite place to stay.

The pool was the one part that could use a change. We understand safety rules, but hearing “no” over even a little splashing felt excessive, especially for children. It took away some of the fun, and normal play and swimming can be supervised without so much control. Aside from that, we had a wonderful family stay at Getfam Hotel. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and well cared for, and room service was excellent. We also had a great city view. The wait staff were friendly, attentive, and professional. Abebe, the manager, gave our children such a warm welcome and made our family feel valued. That personal kindness really stayed with us. We’d happily return and recommend the hotel to families and other travellers looking for comfort and good service.

We spent 10 days here, and the staff started to feel like family. Samret, Birtukan, and the rest of the crew remembered our names and often knew what we needed before we asked. We felt like guests, not tourists. For the price, the amenities were hard to beat: a pool, spa, barber, restaurant, and a great breakfast. One of the best value stays we’ve had. If you’re in Addis, this is the spot.

The hotel itself seems worth staying at, and I don’t want to generalize about the staff since people on other shifts may be more professional. But the front desk interaction left me feeling unwelcome. The receptionist was unfriendly, spoke unprofessionally, and didn’t handle my questions well. I was in town to see my girlfriend during her layover in Addis Ababa. Ethiopian Airlines had arranged her stay at Getfam Hotel. When I came to meet her, I was asked for an extra USD 20, which I accepted because I understand there are hotel rules. The next morning, though, I was told to leave by 8:00 a.m. and asked for another USD 20 for breakfast. That seemed unreasonable for such a short stay, and the food price felt excessive in those circumstances, even if the food may be good.
