AG Hotel Gondar

The hotel is very close to the city, and my stay was okay apart from the hard bed and the lack of hot water. It gets loud at night because nearby nightclubs turn up the music. I'd eat here, but stay somewhere else if you can.

For the price and central location, AG Hotel is a reasonable place for a couple of days in Gondar. The room was clean, though quite dark: the lighting was poor, the walls and furniture were dark, and the curtains looked like they needed replacing. My room faced the street, so noise carried on around the clock and made a good night's sleep difficult. Since it was at the end of the corridor, WiFi barely worked there. The shower only trickled. Breakfast on the first floor was fine, nothing special. I had pizza in the restaurant by reception, but the meat was so tough that my first bite made me worry I might chip a tooth. The hotel is in central Gondar, within walking distance of all the attractions.

The room was large and had a good bed, and the hotel is centrally located with free WiFi. Breakfast options are a bit limited, the shower is usually cold, and the front-facing rooms get quite noisy. There’s no air conditioning, and the sheets are very static.

If nightlife is what you’re after, this hotel is a good option. It’s close to the historic attractions and cultural festivals during Ethiopian holidays. The location is great, the service is wonderful, and it has a calming feel during the day.
