Top 12 was an immaculate, calm base for my three nights in Lalibela, with great food and coffee. The location and mountain views are the best part, with birdsong all around. They can arrange great hides for your trips. If you have the time, see beyond the rock-hewn churches: climb the mountain to visit the monastery and meet local farming people. It really felt like an oasis of calm, which can be rare in Ethiopia.

Lalibela has been through a lot in recent years, from covid to fighting in the region. If you're brave enough to visit, the city itself is very safe, and you MUST stay at Top Twelve. It's a gem, one of the few hotels that has stayed in operation over the past few years. The views are AMAZING, the service incredible, and the rooms and beds are big and comfortable. Great value for money. After more than 100 countries, this is one of my favorite stays.

The balcony is a perfect place for breakfast, with a stunning panorama of the mountains and valley. The hotel is in a great spot, the rooms are clean and comfortable, and the staff are kind and happy to help plan visits to the Lalibela churches. Excellent value. Highly recommended!

From both of our rooms, the balconies had incredible panoramic views, and everything was clean. The hotel staff were so welcoming and friendly, and helped us arrange a knowledgeable local guide as well as an easy transfer. We also really enjoyed the tasty lunches and dinners they served. We had a wonderful stay in Lalibela and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting.

The room issue I ran into was sorted out quickly by the team, and the location was perfect. The views from my room and the breakfast area alone made the stay worthwhile. I enjoyed my time there, but I'm giving it four stars because I didn't like the subtle pressure to pay in dollars or euros.
