We left 3 days early and wouldn’t recommend this camp. If you’re on a tight backpacker budget and want somewhere quiet, you may find what you need, but be ready for very basic conditions: one light by the dining table, none in the tent or bathroom, no hot water, no bathroom sink, dirty tents, uncomfortable beds and little equipment for the beach. We were also left wondering what we had paid for, since the accommodation didn’t seem worth more than 10USD a night. We expected decent food, but had papaya every day, fish once, and plain rice otherwise. The food portions were tiny, with ingredients that didn’t seem fresh, including canned vegetables and preserved tuna. Our last dinner was an “omelette” and a slice of bread, and the cook apologized because there was no food left to prepare. The only kayak was taken away so guests couldn’t use it for free. If we wanted to go anywhere, we had to pay. The camp is isolated from the rest of the island and other islands. There’s nowhere to walk to, so you’re stuck there unless you take the manager’s brother’s boat. You have to work around his rules and timings, deal with his prices, and we found his manner unpleasant and rude. There’s no shop or other way to get around. Our arrival was troubling from the start. The manager was in Australia, so we couldn’t speak with the person who arranged our stay at Isa Lei. His brother picked us up from the ferry from Nadi and immediately told us we’d have to pay for the return trip. At low tide, reaching the coast meant walking over dead coral and rocks for more than 15 minutes. That gave us a poor impression of the beach, which was one of the worst on the island. After that long walk, we found the family tent we’d booked, with two separate beds, wasn’t available. We asked the cook, the only staff member at the camp, to call the manager. He provided two separate tents, but one was badly broken by the wind and unusable. The other was where the cook had been sleeping, so she had nowhere to stay and went to the village for the night. The few guests were left alone. That didn’t feel safe, especially after a couple staying with us said heavy rain had made their tent unusable on an earlier night.
