The staff were wonderful, gave us our space, and somehow kept everything in order. We came home to laundry cleaned and folded, dishes done, beds made, fresh coconuts in the fridge, and thoughtful notes. They even let us check out late because there were no guests the next day. It was a 10/10 stay, and I wouldn’t change a thing. I’d seen some negative Google reviews and got nervous, even though I’d booked through VRBO, where the reviews were all stellar. The reality blew us away. It was even more beautiful in person. I hadn’t known there’d be staff and was a little apprehensive, but they greeted us, showed us around, and left us be. On mornings when we weren’t leaving early for tours or excursions, we hardly realized they were there because they gave us space. Highly, highly recommended. My family has rented places many times on our trips, and this was the best. Why stay in a resort when you can get a bigger, more private space, a more authentic experience, and a better price? Vinaka!

The garden, view, and villa were nice, once we made it up the hair-raising driveway. The vibe from the staff and owners was odd, hard to explain, and didn’t have the usual welcoming feeling we’ve had in Fiji.

We left early after the whole family came down with mysterious illnesses. The driveway was shocking to drive up, and the new housekeeper was aggressive and bossy. The owners kept tabs on everything we did, which felt like a total invasion of privacy. They were extremely difficult to deal with and refused to dismiss her. I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

The welcoming people of Tagage keep sharing their hospitality with everyone travelling through, and that made the area feel especially warm. Vakaviti Kalokalo is a villa in Maui bay with a scenic panorama and the southerly trade winds. There’s a supermarket, service station and restaurants nearby, plus the beach and fishing grounds for families to enjoy. A great chance to spend some time away from home.
