Bay View Barbers Lodge

There were three of us, but we were given just one towel. The place was extremely dirty, and the bathroom was in terrible shape, with stains and built-up scum on the toilet seats and shower walls.

The roof leaks during heavy rain, and stains on the tiled floor showed where water had come through. When I told the front desk, staff pointed out that it leaked above them too. They said management was waiting for government permits to add another floor, so they weren't investing in a permanent roof. We moved to Sunset Lodge down the road, where the rooms and beds were much better for the same price. We'd booked a week because the location near town was handy, but left partway through. The beds were uncomfortable, with every mattress spring noticeable, the hallways were noisy all night, and the whole bathroom faucet turned when we tried to use the nozzle. We didn't see cockroaches or bed bugs, which is why I gave it two stars instead of one.

This was my second stay, and I still find the owners very nice. It's a family-run place. Eata checked me in quickly and let me leave my luggage right away. The deluxe room has a lovely view of the boats, and it was spacious and clean when I arrived. The fridge was plugged in and the AC was already set to 24 C. The bed was king size and comfortable, the kitchen worked well, and the hallway was shiny and clean. They offer daily room service, and the fresh market for fruit and vegetables is nearby.

There are several restaurants, a supermarket, and the immigration office within a three-minute walk, which makes the location handy. As far as I know, this is the most affordable hotel in Savusavu. The staff are there around the clock and deal kindly with any problems. Some room fittings are worn out with age. The sink faucet and the shower's water-heater switch were both troublesome, though neither was entirely unusable.
