Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort Fiji

Cousteau dive op is unreliable. I was assured I'd have a place on a boat, then bumped when a group booked it out. They said the employees don't communicate with each other. Don't count on this place if you're planning to dive.

I joined a half-day snorkeling trip to Namena. The workers were very friendly and looked after everyone really well. It wasn't cheap, but you get what you pay for.

The nannies who cared for our kids, Etta and Lonisa, were warm, attentive, and brilliant. We got to enjoy three wonderful days of diving, seeing turtles, whitetip reef sharks, eagle rays, and plenty more. Snorkeling just off the resort beach was great too, with loads of bright, colorful fish. One morning we spent over an hour in the water, then came back to the sunbeds for a barista-made coffee. The staff are what make Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort so special. From the moment we arrived, they made an effort to know us and connect with us. After our short six-night stay, we were genuinely sad to leave and felt as if we were saying goodbye to old friends. It's a beautiful, unforgettable place, and we can't wait to return.

Update: the dive company has contacted me and says it will make changes. I hope they do so before there's a serious incident. I didn't stay at the resort, so this is only about the diving. I agree with the previous review that there are serious safety concerns, and I'd avoid diving here. There were no proper briefings. The guide never checked how much air we had underwater and kept swimming so far ahead that we couldn't tell him when someone was low on air. He also wasn't keeping watch on the divers. It took me a while to catch up to tell him that we had lost a river. I normally use air very efficiently, but still finished the dive with only 20bar left.
