Coconut Grove Beachfront Cottages

The restaurant served tasty home cooked food, and the welcome was wonderfully warm. The sea is only about 30 paces away, and the airport is a five minute walk. They sorted all our taxis and excursion bookings efficiently and with a smile. I’d strongly recommend staying here on Taveuni. Thanks so much for looking after us.

A private, affordable little gem. My husband and I had a wonderful time, and the clean, cosy villas had comfortable beds and lovely beach views. We really liked the food, too. The staff were fantastic. We met the new owners and could already see what a difference they’ve made in such a short time. Good on them. We’ll be back, and would recommend a stay 🥂

The restaurant alone was worth the trip. We ate every meal there, and loved the fresh fruit platters, lemonade, curry, and especially the coconut banana bread with butter. The food was amazing. We also came away with lovely memories of sunrise and sunset skies, stars and rainbows, and the whole team’s care. Coconut Grove is a small, distinctive resort where the owners and staff clearly put their hearts into making everything feel special and run smoothly. Our two families travel a lot with kids aged 9-12, and we all had an incredible time. We hardly wore shoes. The kids loved playing with the owners’ adorable, smart, funny daughters, and even without kids, you’d enjoy them. Our room was just four steps from the sandy beach, and the lava rock outdoor shower was so fun. The lush grounds welcomed us with a song from the staff, and the owners and their kids were a delight. When we wanted a quiet day, we could read in a hammock, watch fishermen walk out onto the reef, or relax in the water. For outings, the team arranged rides to natural waterslides, which the kids loved so much we went twice, cliff jumping at a national park waterfall, and scuba diving and snorkelling, everyone’s favourite. They packed a tasty lunch with drinks and snacks, and helped us visit a local school where the kids played and made local friends. The Wi-Fi worked great for my work and video meetings. We met wonderful guests, including people who had sailed from New Zealand on a round-the-world trip, and we now follow their journey on social media. It’s on the beach and close to the airport, so the holiday starts as soon as you land. There are only two tiny planes a day, so there wasn’t any airplane noise. Being near the airport meant we could enjoy the holiday right away and make the most of our last moments before flying home. Without exaggeration, this was the best family holiday we’ve ever had. Now that I know about Coconut Grove, I can’t imagine staying anywhere else.

We only ate at the restaurant, but the food was delicious and well prepared. Don’t miss the local ceviche, cokonda. The staff were lovely, too. We had dinner there, then came back for lunch a couple of days later after a day hike and before our flight. They let us shower in one of the rooms, and the place was so stunning and peaceful that we decided we’d have to stay a few nights next time :)
