Kosrae Nautilus Resort

The reef is right across from the hotel, and you can spot sea creatures in knee-deep water. We loved being able to get straight out there. Josh, the owner, also became our guide and then a friend. He joined us for every activity and showed us quiet, uninhabited places with hardly any tourists, from mangroves and waterfalls to caves, ruins, and a museum. We started with only a rough itinerary and got so many lovely surprises. Our room was simple, but had what we needed, including fast wifi. There’s a pool, scuba gear, and delicious, affordable meals with huge portions. One poke bowl could feed two hungry people. Pizza is on sale Sundays, and you can request fresh seafood. Everyone was friendly and hands-on. They even made a special dinner for our anniversary. We got lost on the trail back from the falls, but didn’t mind. We just wandered through the deep forest and enjoyed it. Life felt simple there, and we felt close to nature. We could easily have stayed for months if our schedule had allowed. No photos can show how wonderful the place is. Thanks for such an amazing experience!

The people were super nice, and I loved the food. The famous Blue Hole is right at the resort, and snorkeling there is highly recommended. You can borrow gear on site. Lelu ruins are within walking distance, and there’s a bank next door. All the rooms have A/C. You can rent a car there or arrange tours. Fishing was really fun even though I’d never tried it before. Kayaks are free to use for exploring the mangroves behind the resort. A perfect place to stay on the island. Thank you!

My review is only for the restaurant at Nautilus Resort, since we’re staying at another hotel in Kosrae. We were a group of six on a Sunday afternoon, with no real lunch rush, and the meals arrived fairly quickly. I ordered chicken curry, which was different from the chicken and rice with curry sauce I’d had at other Micronesian restaurants. This came as a very large bowl of hot curry soup with vegetables and chunks of chicken, plus a heaping portion of rice on a smaller plate. One friend ordered fish curry, which was the same soup with tuna instead of chicken, and she enjoyed hers too. I tried a few spoonfuls first, then added rice, which made it even better. I ate nearly the whole huge bowl. It was very good, and I highly recommend it. The wait staff refilled our iced tea and water several times. I wish there were a separate rating for the food, but since there isn’t, make sure to try the Nautilus restaurant while visiting Kosrae.

We stayed four nights at The Nautilus resort and enjoyed it a lot. Hiking and snorkeling were just a short drive away. The resort is nice, the service is good, and breakfast was great. The rooms are plain and need some maintenance, though. A/C and Wi-Fi worked great.
