South Park Hotel Micronesia

The view from the room was nice, and the staff were welcoming and really helpful. They collected me at the airport, helped me call rental car companies, and marked tourist spots on a Pohnpei map. But the cleanliness was unacceptable. The bathtub was rusty and had hair in it, towels were stained, small ants were around, and cockroaches came out from a wall cover. The bathroom and the rest of the interior smelled bad and felt old, dirty, and poorly maintained. Some work could improve it.

The room did what I needed for the time I was there, and having an airport shuttle was handy. There were dead bugs on the sheets, though, and the air conditioning stopped working. I had to track someone down to fix it, but once I found them, it came back on pretty quickly.

The view is great, and for a budget stay I had a bed, free wifi, and a location that was decent enough. But the room was gross, with big bugs crawling around the rusty bathroom. The staff were very nice, yet they pushed their tours and restaurant so hard that I worried they might be steering me wrong.

The dining area has a lovely view, especially around sunset. The rooms are pretty typical for the islands, and the proprietor sometimes puts on Polynesian shows on the lawn above the bay.
