The room at Hôtel du Centre Annemasse was clean and my stay was reasonable, but the lighting was so poor that it needed to be at least twice as bright for comfort. Since the TV wasn’t a smart TV, I brought my Samsung tablet. I had to leave at 4 a.m. to catch my flight, and, half asleep in the dim room, I rushed out and accidentally left it behind. I only realized four days later. I called the hotel and contacted them through Booking.com. The two staff members I spoke to both said nothing had been found, even though I gave them my room number, 207. I was told that anything found by housekeeping should be put somewhere safe for collection. That clearly didn’t happen here. I don’t believe another guest could have taken it, since the room should have been thoroughly cleaned first, so I suspect someone on the cleaning team or another staff member kept it and denied responsibility. I know I should have been more careful with my belongings, but I expect to be able to trust the security of a hotel. Based on what happened, I’d tell anyone staying here to take extra care with their things. If you leave something behind, there’s no guarantee you’ll get it back, and the staff will deny responsibility.

The breakfast was great, and the hotel was clean and tidy. There are major tram works going on outside at the moment, but I was lucky to be coming from the station on foot.

The location is excellent, almost beside Annemasse train station, with direct trains to Geneva City in 30 minutes. Breakfast was fresh and had nice options. The rooms were clean and had very good air conditioning, though one of our towels was dirty. The bathrooms were okay, but I’m not keen on showering in a bathtub, especially without a curtain, since water gets everywhere. Service felt neutral. She wasn’t rude, but beyond handing us the keys and saying “floor 3,” there wasn’t much interaction, and no smile or welcoming attitude. We paid 100 euros for a double room with breakfast, 30% off on booking.com. I wouldn’t pay the full €150 per night.

The place was clean, and the reception service was good. Parking was okay, too. It could be nice, but it’s a bit run down, and city roadworks made it difficult to reach by car.

The location was awful, with people smoking and homeless people around. The rooms smelled after the first day, even though they had been cleaned somewhat, and there was lots of dust and really cheap furniture. The cleaning lady didn’t do a proper job, the sheets were dirty, and the towels smelled. Breakfast was okay.
