Domaine des Mimosas

The location made a big difference in high season. It’s up the hill outside Argelès, away from the resort centre crowds, traffic and madness, so the whole site feels really relaxed. We stayed in a villa (piscine - excellent with really large garden), while our parents had a comfort plus pitch for their caravan, which they liked just as much. The whole team were incredibly friendly and worked so hard to make our stay fantastic. Nothing was too much trouble. Highly, highly recommended.

We planned on two nights and ended up staying six. The camping pitches are huge, and ours looked out over The Med and Chateau Valmy, with the mountains behind us. The staff were so welcoming. It’s a great base for beaches, hiking, wine tasting, and visiting the village on market days. The restaurant and bar are very good too, and we loved our stay. The one downside was that there was no handwash in the bathrooms.

For a 2-star campsite, this is amazing. It’s a small to medium-sized site, and we found it a much nicer stay than the more industrial campsites in Argeles town. The owners and staff were all super friendly and helpful. It’s easy to feel relaxed in such a beautiful place! You can cycle to Racou beach or Argelès harbour in about 10 minutes, while the campsite sits peacefully on a hillside beside a vineyard, with a chateau, hill walks, and mountain bike trails right there. It’s a couple of degrees cooler than the campsites in the busy town centre, which is welcome in the summer heat, and there’s plenty of shade. The facilities were spotless, cleaned thoroughly at least 3 or 4 times a day. There’s no toilet roll or hand soap, but that’s probably why it’s 2 stars. The pool was busy enough to be fun without feeling too crowded. The water was on the cloudy side of clear, but it didn’t bother us. The pitches are good, though the shrubs between them are too small to give much privacy. The restaurant is aimed at meat eaters, with not much for vegetarians like us. They could also do more with music or promotions in the evenings to bring people into the bar, which was quiet apart from Tuesday karaoke. We’d absolutely recommend the place.

There’s a nice bar and terrace, plus a good restaurant, and the staff are friendly. It’s a perfect spot above Argeles sur Mer, with clean facilities and an excellent swimming pool.
