The rooms were clean, the shower was warm, and breakfast was good value and typical of a French hotel. We parked right outside our rooms. My teenage sons had a separate room, and thankfully the pull-out bed under the double had been made up so they didn’t have to share. I’m a biker and would happily stay here with my motorbike; I saw a few other bikers and their bikes seemed safe. There appeared to be a receptionist on duty overnight. We chose this place because we were driving four hours after work to reach the tunnel and catch a late crossing, giving us a full first day of holiday. We couldn’t get a reply when we tried to confirm a midnight check-in, either from the hotel or Campanile customer service, but someone at reception was there and checked us in quickly. I’ve stayed in other hotels east of Calais that were pretty grim, while this Campanile was just right for an overnight stop. It’s easy to find, just off the A16/E40 from Calais towards Antwerp.

The room was a good size and spotless, with a great shower and air-con. The location was handy and the price was very good. We got in around midnight, so I called ahead; the man who answered was really friendly, clear and helpful about what to do. I’d stay here again.

For a budget place, this is an easy recommendation. I’ve paid more for worse beds in hotels with more stars. The room was clean and the shower worked well, and they reduced the price after I explained my circumstances. Staff greeted me warmly, and I couldn’t fault it for a quick overnight stop. I’d definitely choose it when I need a good night’s sleep.

The room was fine and breakfast was good value, but everything else felt far too expensive. We skipped the electric car charger because the price was so high, and a pint at the bar was €8.50. With no shops nearby, your choice is to pay those prices or go without. We went without the extras. I understand it’s a business, but this feels like ripping people off. I wouldn’t stay again.

For €45 I got an okay room and a simple breakfast, and the place was convenient for the ferry. The accommodation has an old motel feel and needs updating, and the surrounding part of town seemed a little dodgy.
