We ended up searching for somewhere to sleep in a remote area one evening with our two young kids in the car. We were on a road trip through France in August 2020 and had booked two nights here. The owner texted while we were still about an hour and a half away, saying he wouldn’t take us because we hadn’t arrived by 7 pm. He hadn’t asked us beforehand what time we’d get there. We politely called to ask if he could leave the key somewhere, but he was rude and aggressive and said he was cancelling the reservation. Then he charged us for one night even though we never stayed there. I travel a lot and have never had anything like this happen. This was supposedly a five-star hotel. Avoid it.

There are caves, waterfalls, and plenty of other things to see nearby. The owner is lovely and really makes an effort to make sure your stay goes well. We had a spacious room with a very comfortable bed, and the garden is beautifully kept. Château de la Rode is magnificent. I’d happily recommend it.

We’re still enchanted by our honeymoon at Château de la Rode and already want to come back. The garden and pool are kept in perfect shape, and there are lovely walks in the surrounding area. Don’t miss the Café de la Gare. Inside, the château feels like a trip through time and space, with memories of Didier’s travels everywhere. The volunteers at the lamp station in the heart of the village run a really good food service with a lovely community spirit. Such a nice discovery. At the château, we especially enjoyed the comfortable beds and the generous, original breakfasts. The place and its well-kept grounds are beautiful, and the charming hosts were very attentive. Our short stay was just right for relaxing and exploring. Thank you for a wonderful time!

Everything was there for a lovely, memorable stay. The rooms are roomy, tastefully decorated, very comfortable, and spotless. The owners are so welcoming and attentive, and the château is a peaceful retreat in a magnificent setting. A magical place.
