There’s plenty to see and read, and the history is really interesting. The tablets turn the visit into a fun treasure hunt for kids, though I’d say ages 10 and up will get more of the historical side. The combined ticket for the garden and Avignon bridge seemed reasonably priced. Buying tickets online should save you from waiting at the entrance.

The palace is beautiful, with a magnificent view, and the architecture has been well preserved. There’s a lot of history to learn about here. Bring sneakers, though, because you’ll be climbing plenty of stairs.

We spent about an hour and a half on the self-guided tour, taking our time to look around. The palace is lovely and well cared for, and it’s excellent value, definitely a highlight in Avignon. The tablet has some clever features once you work out how it operates, though it may not be intuitive if you’re not keen on technology. Carrying it the whole time got annoying, especially when we kept swapping between it and our own camera. A strap or some way to attach it would help. Still, we had a superb visit and don’t regret going.

The views are breathtaking, and the place is a must-see. There are countless rooms to wander through, with free historical information that brings the era to life. It’s a beautiful, enriching visit. Keep in mind it isn’t accessible for people with reduced mobility or for strollers.
