We felt very welcome here and were well looked after. The owners have a warm, friendly and original air about them, and the old estate has a sense of past grandeur. It's up the mountainside overlooking Ax-Les-Thermes, and the views are magnificent. The building is old but well maintained, and our room was very clean, generously sized and had a balcony. Breakfast was included, simple but nice, and there is a shared kitchen. There's also a pool with a view. The estate is home to dogs, cats, goats and a pony, along with wild birds and bats. If you love animals, that's wonderful.

The breakfast was good, the views are outstanding, and the lady who runs this place was friendly and helpful. We felt it was very good value and the B&B met our expectations. A couple of practical things to know: it's run by a family, and they wind down for the evening, so you absolutely can't check in after 9:00 PM. Check with them in case their schedule changes. They only speak French, but the lady is patient and friendly when communicating. There's also a city tax to pay in cash. I think it was just 1.40 euros, but knowing ahead of time could save you a trip into town before checkout.

We loved the enormous family room in this beautiful old house, with the mountains right outside. Breakfast was lovely, and the hosts were relaxed, friendly and welcoming. Having access to a kitchen so we could make dinner was a big help.

We had to scramble to find somewhere else to sleep late at night, which was upsetting during an otherwise wonderful vacation. Our reservation at Les Cascatelles was prepaid, but an unexpected delay meant we'd arrive very late. We called ahead with our expected arrival time and were told they wouldn't honor the paid booking because they don't accept arrivals after 9pm. Then they hung up on me.

The photos online looked nice, but the place itself was in decay and not nice at all. I drove a long way and arrived at 4.30 PM with a confirmed booking, only to find Les Cascatelles closed, with a sign on the door. A neighbor said, "...they went on holiday to Spain...". I called the number on the confirmation paper, but the recorded message was in FRENCH and I couldn't make out what it said. I had to call BOOKINGS.com and wait 5/8 minutes before they told me they'd reached the property and got the same result. My card had already been charged. Since it was late, I found another hotel in town. Back in Australia I called BOOKINGS.com, and they offered me half the amount because Les Cascatelles said I was a NOT SHOW UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a concrete face. I'm being very kind giving one star. They deserve -0.
