Henry II Hotel

The staff were very helpful, and it’s a convenient base for visiting the old town center. Standard rooms are very small, though, and the underground parking is really difficult with a normal-sized sedan. The spaces reserved for charging are a decent size. Parking is 20 euros, plus a flat 30 euros for charging, so even a small top-up can get expensive.

The historic feel and good location were appealing, and we enjoyed breakfast, though its room could use an update. Our room had several problems: the reception phone didn’t work, the hand soap dispenser was empty, the toilet door wouldn’t shut properly, and the shower had poor water flow. Reception staff turnover made communication difficult. By the time anyone dealt with the shower issue, we’d already had to deal with standing water, and we weren’t offered any compensation. Our room faced the inner courtyard beside the hotel bar, which runs 24/7, and noise from other guests kept disturbing us well past midnight. With all that, I’d suggest looking at other places to stay.

The property is beautiful, the rooms are excellent, and the location is great. Still, our two-night stay got off to a bitter start because of an arrogant receptionist named Marianna. She made a fuss when we tried to get our car into the hotel parking without a reservation, saying we were blocking other cars, even though my wife was only waiting behind the wheel for the gate to open. At her request, I gave the family name on the booking and even offered our passports, but she couldn’t find the reservation at first. When she did, she said it was for one room, although we’d booked two. She was unfriendly and clearly annoyed by my reasonable, if far from perfect, French. She kept asking unnecessary questions about the number of adults and children, which were already in our Agoda reservation. A lovely property still leaves a bad taste when staff treat you the way Marianna treated me.

We stayed one night on May 30 and loved this cute little hotel. The rooms are cozy, with updated bathrooms and outlets, plus a really cute sitting nook with a chair and little snacks. The breakfast room is on the small side, but I had no complaints at all.
