La Residence Regina

The food was a highlight from start to finish. Room service on our first night arrived so quickly, and both the burger and Caesar salad were amazing. Breakfast in the room was great too, with a lovely selection, delicious pastries, and a choice of eggs. The buffet had so much to try, and they made our French omelette just right. On our last night we ate at The Frenchie, where the tasting menu and wine pairings were mindblowing. Everything was carefully considered and perfectly cooked. I don't even like fish, but ate the whole fish course! We stayed four nights for our honeymoon and honestly have no notes. The room had beautiful furnishings and thoughtful details, including chocolates every day. We never heard a peep from the neighbors and slept like a dream. The staff were incredible, friendly, and happy to help with any extras we asked for. Regina Experimental is a wonderful hotel with great service. Can't recommend it enough.

The photos give you a good idea of what to expect, and everything is beautifully designed and well cared for. The whole team seemed fresh, helpful, and not at all tired. Laundry took a long time, but the rest of the experience was so good that I can let that go. At breakfast, I'd have liked more fresh vegetables and a wider choice of hot dishes.

There's a lot of history in this older hotel, with quirky rooms and a distinctive design in the shared spaces. It has a real Wes Anderson feel. The buffet breakfast was great, and the breakfast staff lovely. Front office staff were nice too, especially the valet and the porter. The concierge team gave us brilliant food recommendations. It's a 15-minute walk to the main part of Biarritz.

The ceiling is beautiful, and the lounge with people playing games is lovely. The kids working here are nice, but the rest of the staff felt more like what you'd expect at a country club pool house. For a hotel in this price range, I regret booking it more than any other place we've stayed in Europe, which we visit at least once a year. The building isn't well maintained and feels moldy. Rooms are usually cramped, with showers that seem to leave water all over the bathroom floor. Restaurant service has barely a pulse; the overpriced food is airport lounge quality. As for the drinks, I can't even remember them. If the price were €250 less per night, I'd give it four stars. At what they charge, three is what it earns.
