We made a good choice staying at Hotel de France et de Guise in Blois. Its location by the Royal Blois Castle and pedestrian streets was perfect, with the Loire River nearby and a lovely church visible from our bedroom. Chambord Castle and other palaces were only a short drive away. There’s no hotel parking, but paid street parking during the day and free parking at night worked well for our short three-day visit. This is a charming old hotel that suits the spirit of Blois and the Loire Valley. The rooms are a little small and the building somewhat dated, but that adds to its character. Everything was very clean, still elegant, and the staff were welcoming and friendly. Breakfast in the pretty dining room, surrounded by castle paintings, was delicious and plentiful. The coffee machine had all the options we needed from the modern world.

It’s worn, but fine for the 55-65€ price range. La Barber across the street is a fun stop for a glass of wine or a haircut.

There’s an optional breakfast. The room was clean and cosy, with towels, a bath, extra pillows and duvets, a fan, and a hair dryer. We had a good view of the palace from the windows and balcony.

We were in room 4, with a direct view of the chateau. The rooms are simple and functional, as you’d expect at a two star hotel, but breakfast was the highlight: artisanale croissants, baguettes, fromage blanc, local cheeses, and Dammann tea. The location right across from the chateau is outstanding, and it was great value overall.
