The Valentine’s Day meal was a letdown. We expected a polished 4-star restaurant, but it was set up in the breakfast room, which still looked like a breakfast space. With one server for about 25 tables, service was very slow. Getting to the hotel was also rough. I had emailed our flight details the day before and asked for airport pickup, explaining that my mother can’t walk far. I called at 13:30 as instructed and was told the shuttle would come in 10 minutes. We waited outside in the cold and rain for 20 minutes, called again, and heard it was on its way. After another 15 minutes and a third call, it finally arrived, after roughly 45 minutes outdoors. If someone had told me about the delay, we could have stayed inside the airport. At the hotel, our room wasn’t ready. During a staff shift change, nobody seemed to know what was happening, and we waited another 45 minutes without an explanation. The restaurant was closed until 7:00 PM, even though we’d arrived hungry after travelling. When my two credit cards were declined, I offered cash, but cash wasn’t accepted either. I had to wait for a manager’s approval to pay. The staff didn’t seem to recognize the inconvenience and kept saying it was “not their fault.” I understand delays and busy periods happen, but I’d hoped for more empathy and help finding a solution. This was the most expensive hotel I booked on my holiday in Freiburg, Colmar, Mulhouse, and Basel, and it wasn’t the stay I expected.

We had a delicious dinner at the restaurant, and the hotel itself was clean, modern, quiet, and very nice. It was also a great price. Staying here worked really well for our early flight at the Basel airport. The shuttle was easy to use both on arrival and for our morning departure. I emailed to ask how to find it, and the hotel replied quickly with clear step-by-step directions.

The Japanese toilet was a delight, and the staff were super nice and quick to respond whenever I asked for something. It’s a business hotel with excellent service, including an airport shuttle. I was disappointed that the jacuzzi was out of action, but that was just unlucky.

The facilities at Mercure were amazing, especially the water station, pool, and gym. The staff were great, too. I’d come from a reception-less hotel in central Basel that wouldn’t let me check in early so I could sleep after 16 hours of travel. At Mercure, they welcomed me graciously and checked me in kindly. Thank you for your patience and hospitality.

We stopped here for a quick night during our vacation in Italy. The hotel was great, with nice rooms, great bathrooms, and everything clean. There’s a good-sized parking lot outside.
