Hôtel de la Plage

We had a good meal at the simple restaurant downstairs, which saved us a long walk into town that night. The beachfront is also lovely for a stroll before continuing the journey. It's a solid budget stay: staff were pleasant and helpful, and the rooms and shared areas were clean, though they could use a little care. Nothing unusual for this price range. The mattress seemed fairly new, and was firm and comfortable.

The location is a dream, and the staff were kind and friendly, so my bad stay wasn't their fault. But the building is in really poor condition. Noise was awful, light came in around the door, and the place didn't feel clean. The old beds were uncomfortable and creaked whenever either of us moved. There was no AC, and it seemed the windows hadn't been opened for fresh air in a while before we arrived. At about €120 for one off-season night, it felt like a rip-off for the location. I wouldn't recommend it or stay again.

I checked in at 20:17 and left at 21:10, leaving my keycard on the desk at reception in the restaurant. I can't call that a hotel room. The walls had no soundproofing, so it was terribly noisy, and the heating and mattress felt like they were from around the time radiators were first invented and after the war, respectively. The owner should tear the place down and rebuild it. The location was great and the staff were friendly, but the food was below average, though edible if there was no other option and I was hungry. I'd rather wait in the Calais ferry line for the first sailing than stay there again. Sorry for the bad review, but it was the worst experience ever.

The food was delicious, and the portions were generous. There's nothing fancy about the place, but we had a really good lunch. We're thinking of taking a day trip and staying the night this summer.
