Campanile Chantilly

The staff were genuinely friendly and helpful, and we enjoyed the relaxed restaurant and nicely presented food. The menu felt a bit limited, though. The hotel is practical and comfortable, but it needs some renovation and care. Our room could have been cleaner, the door onto the outdoor walkway let in too much sound, and parts of the wooden railing were splintered and damaged. I’d worry about that with children. I’d stay again for work nearby or a stopover.

The town is an easy walk away, and there’s a good bakery right by the entrance. It was quiet, with shutters on the windows and free parking that seemed fairly secure. For 50 euros a night, the simple motel room was perfectly adequate. Heating and air conditioning are there, though the gaps around the door might make it cold in the middle of winter. It was warm enough in early April.

The location is the only reason I’d give this place even one star. The bathroom smelled awful, the sink and bathroom drains were blocked, and there was someone else’s hair on the walls. The towels and sheets had unpleasant stains of unknown origin. Lighting was poor, and the lamp in the green corner didn’t work because it had no bulb, so you couldn’t see anything there. The bathroom heater only ran for about five minutes in total, leaving the towels damp. Even the toilet paper was soaked in some kind of blue chemical. They ignored my chat messages, and the receptionist was rude and clearly annoyed when we simply asked for dry towels.

The service was friendly, and breakfast was alright, though it ends at 9. I stayed with my son while he was at a nearby tournament. The rooms are small, and sound carries a lot. You can hear people making love or arguing as far as two rooms away, so keep that in mind if you need a proper night's rest.
