Best Western Hotel Colbert

The restaurant food was amazing, especially the beef, which was the best I had during our Europe trip. The reception and restaurant staff were friendly and helpful, and both check-in and checkout were quick and easy. Our room was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed, and guests can use secure parking. We did hear traffic and people outside at night, so I'd suggest asking for a room on the inside of the building.

The staff made a great impression, from the receptionist on duty Saturday night, 10 Feb, to the breakfast attendant, who showed us around the buffet so we could find everything right away. Breakfast was excellent, with fresh-squeezed orange juice, eggs, three kinds of muesli, four milk alternatives, fresh fruit, and good tea. Dinner at the restaurant was excellent too, and the bar has Brooklyn Brewery IPA on tap. Our comfort room, Room 328, had a second door between the bedroom and corridor, making it especially quiet and private. I don't know if every room is like that. The window opened onto a quiet courtyard, and there was secure outdoor parking with room for our tall Land Rover. The bed was comfortable, with bedside lights, and there were plenty of plugs and USB ports. The walk-in shower was good. The only small issue was that the bathroom extractor fan wasn't working. I reported it and am sure it will be fixed soon.

We stayed at Hotel Le Colbert in November without knowing what to expect. Châteauroux was much bigger than we'd imagined, but the hotel was easy to find. The secure car park had an electronic gate with a code and plenty of spaces, though there was also plenty of street parking right outside. The pedestrian entrance is opposite reception. The hotel has a really interesting history, which I'll leave for you to discover. The welcome was friendly, and the place turned out to be more upmarket than expected, with a lot of care put into the design. The room was great, with high ceilings, lots of space, and a comfortable bed. The large windows facing the first floor and above are room windows. The bathroom felt cramped compared with the spacious bedroom, but that's a small complaint. With a little more thought, the designer could have fitted two sinks. Dinner at the restaurant was very good, and the service was friendly and efficient without hovering. The staff were happy to explain or translate for guests who didn't speak their language. WiFi was free and strong throughout. Great value, and we'll stay again when we visit the factory we went to in Arthon.

I liked the hotel's quirky feel. It seems to be a converted factory or offices, now a fairly interesting hotel with around 70 rooms. My duplex suite was spotless and well maintained, and the beds were firm but comfortable. The staff were lovely and did their best to find us food, even though the restaurant closed just after 9 p.m. The location leaves a lot to be desired, though it's perfect if you're going to CHR airport. It's a bit of a nugget in the middle of nowhere.
