Hôtel Le Schuss

The first aperitif I had here was delicious, with a glass filled to the brim with Prosecco and a splash of sparkling water. On my second visit, I watched them make it and got only three-quarters of a glass, half Aperol and half water. We also hoped to have a two-course dinner, but when I asked the chef in English about soup, he told me to speak French. This is a tourist town, and even if he couldn’t say “vegetable soup” in English, he could have sent us to someone who could help instead of expecting a ski visitor to have a French degree. We just ordered fries with the Aperol, then the whole group went elsewhere for dinner. I don’t like that kind of behavior. Typical French arrogance.

The only vegetarian dish was spaghetti Napolitana, and it was so uninspired it barely counted as pasta. I wouldn’t recommend it. A watered-down cup-a-soup would be better. Good thing I don’t have an Italian grandma, she’d have died twice eating this. You’ve been warned!

It wasn’t good. The soup had no flavour, the frites were undercooked, and there was nowhere to dry your hands in the WC. It’s cheap, but I’m afraid you can tell. I won’t be back.

At €13, this was an absolute rip-off. The spaghetti Napoletana, the menu’s only vegetarian option, was closer to budget supermarket noodle soup: tasteless, textureless spaghetti, if it even qualifies, sitting in watery, flavourless packet tomato soup. This goes in my top three worst ski resort restaurants of all time.
