Sable Chaud brings back so many memories from my childhood. The square used to feel lively and vibrant, and it’s a shame it’s a bit quieter in recent years. Still, I love it. It’s magnificent, well maintained, and an iconic square in Clermont-Ferrand.

The barriers all around the square make it a mess. There’s nowhere to sit on a bench, and it’s unpleasant for pedestrians, especially the poor unfortunate people on foot.

A partly tree-lined Place du 1er-Mai is a major gathering space in Clermont-Ferrand, hosting big events like the Europavox music festival. The Polydome Congress and Exhibition Centre is also there, and right next door, the Coopérative de Mai puts on a demanding contemporary music program.
