Hôtel Saint Joseph

The owner and his wife were a real bright spot, very friendly and happy to help. They spoke English very well and could help with planning hotels or taxis. Still, this small family-run place is in a busy, often noisy part of Clermont. As far as I could tell, there was no designated parking, though local spaces were available for a small fee. The rooms felt cramped, even though they'd made the best of the space. The toilet was only inches from the bed, inside something I first took for a wardrobe. The shower was in what looked like a porta-loo. It struggled to provide hot water at busy times and seemed poorly built. Its holder was broken, so I had to hold the shower head while using it or put it down when I wasn't. The room looked onto another block of rooms, so people could see in if you weren't careful. It was 33 degrees outside when I visited, and there wasn't much airflow or any air conditioning. Bear that in mind if you need those comforts. Breakfast was adequate, but the same every day: coffee, a basket of bread, yogurt, and compote. I stayed four nights and only had it twice. This place can do for a couple of nights if the weather isn't as hot as it was for me and there's not much else to choose from. When I booked, it was the only hotel with a room available for those dates.
