Hôtel de l'Abbaye

We ate recently at the Hôtel de l'Abbaye restaurant, and every course was excellent. The Charolais filet de boeuf may be the best steak I’ve had anywhere. The wine list naturally has some very good Bourgogne choices, and service was both friendly and efficient. I highly recommend it.

The food was very good, but the portions were surprisingly small. After a starter and a main, I was still hungry and had to order another serving of the main, which was more like starter size. I’m not a big eater. I mentioned the portion to the chef later, but he just smiled and said I must have been very hungry. He should have offered the extra serving, and I had to pay for both. Someone who was really hungry would need three menus. I’m not joking.

We stopped for a special meal before heading north for home. The food was exquisite and well priced, and the staff were attentive without hovering. We’ll definitely return. Give this place a try when you’re in Cluny.

The bill came with 190 € too much on it, so I can only give three stars, even though I’d like to write a five-star review. The hotel has been newly renovated, with modern grey decor, and the bed was okay. There’s no lift, just stairs. Breakfast and dinner were good, with Thai-French crossover cooking.
