Le Petit Chou

The homemade spiced rum with the Baba au Rhum was delicious. We visited Chou Rouge yesterday, and the local food was incredibly tasty. Service was sublime too.

The vegetarian dish was a real letdown, just French fries with boiled pumpkin, and terribly overpriced. We’d gone with a friend and weren’t very hungry, so we asked for two starters and wine. The waiter was rude and condescending, insisting we order main courses and saying, “this is not a snack place and you HAVE to have a full meal.” The staff’s rude, arrogant attitude continued through dinner. It made for a very unpleasant evening, and we left very disappointed.

The fish was beautifully plated and cooked perfectly. I came for the second time this year and have promised myself I’ll return every year. For this location, the bistronomique approach feels quite unique: local products given a bistro twist, instead of the aligot saucisse or Aubrac meat usually served at good tables in the area. The food delivers on that promise.

The food was all locally sourced, and there are some lovely local products in the shop, as well as the restaurant. We had a very gourmet meal, and the waiter was really attentive.
