Le Vert Bocage

This was my second visit this year. We chose a superior room, and the extra €30 got us a suite with a very large bed. It had been recently refurbished and was comfortable throughout.

The room was fine, and breakfast was amazing. There was also a very smiley lady, easily four-star stuff. The restaurant brought the rating down. At lunch, I had a small portion of meat with mustard sauce and vegetables. The meat was badly overcooked, the sauce was nothing special, and the vegetables were ordinary things like carrots. I expected more variety. For dinner there was no English menu, so I chose the largest steak and asked if it was tender and easy to chew. They said it was very soft. It came with vegetables, but the steak was extremely hard, nowhere near tender, and almost impossible to cut. When I told the waiter, the response was something like the knife wasn't sharp. I didn't feel like sending it back and waiting twice as long for another dish, so I spent ages chewing and nearly broke the knife, table, my hand, and my teeth trying to manage it. The vegetables were below average for both variety and flavor.

For a one-night stop near Rouen, the location was convenient, and the restaurant was good overall. The rooms were clean and the staff friendly. We booked three rooms for family members. Two were absolutely fine, but the smallest had a terrible drain smell. A staff member tried to fix it, but the smell stayed, and the hotel was full so we couldn't move rooms.

The food was okay, and so was the place. The effiloche de cuisse de volaiille was fine but nothing special. The cesar salad was a little odd because the dressing tasted of anchovies. The cassoulet was generous, but very meaty and not particularly tasty. It was so heavy I couldn't finish it.
