Chateau d'Ige

Dinner turned out much better than we expected. It was clearly trying for fine dining, and unlike places that overreach, the food here was really nice. The staff were friendly, and breakfast was generous for Central France. Nothing hot or cooked, but they seemed to stick to what they do well instead of overextending. We stayed one night. The building apparently dates back to 1235, though much of it has been heavily renovated. Our room had some charm and was comfortable, if not especially memorable. It was easy to find, with secure parking right by the door. It isn’t cheap, but I think you’ll have a pleasant stay.

The evening meal was very good, especially the tasty beef cheek. Our room in this historic building was really comfortable, and everyone on staff we dealt with was polite and efficient. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious, though I did think it was overpriced. Still, it’s a 4 star hotel, so I can’t complain about the prices...

Dinner out on the terrace, looking over the small lake, was the best part of our stay. The pool and grounds are beautiful, too. Our room was comfortable and just large enough for an overnight visit. It’s a very good hotel in an excellent setting.

We only went for dinner and didn’t stay in the castle. The decor is splendid, and there are three rooms to choose from, each with a very different atmosphere. We picked the red room, the smallest and cosiest one. The food was good, but very basic and totally overpriced. Nothing more than that, and easy enough to make at home. The staff felt quite rigid, and we missed some spontaneity. A nice experience once, but we’d recommend other places.
