We told the accommodation at 2 pm that we expected to arrive at 9:30 pm, after a 13-hour drive. When we got there, they said they couldn't be bothered to let us in because it would take more than 30 minutes. Check-in ends at 6 pm, apparently because they only operate part-time. Even letting them know ahead of time didn't help, and we were left without a place to stay. If you might arrive after 6, there's no point booking here. One star is too generous.
Jean was so friendly and helpful. He even opened up after the office had closed. We only stayed one night and didn't get to see the whole place, but it was clean, quiet and green, with generous pitches for caravans. There's a boule area and a snack bar where we had a pinza piled with ham and cheese. Merci bien, Jean!
The service was really kind, and the beautiful lake is only about a two-minute walk from the campsite. We stopped here on our way to Spain and again on the way back, but the timing was unlucky. The lake had been closed the day before our first visit because of algae, a decision made by the authorities, not the campsite. On the return trip, we caught the only two stormy, rainy days of the whole month. There's not much else to do if you can't use the lake, so that's why I'd give it four stars.
We found this campsite by chance last summer while riding with a friend, and it became the best part of our whole trip. Ending the day with a swim in the lake is a memory we still talk about. Thanks for looking after two very tired Englishmen so kindly. Stay here if you're nearby, or take a detour to get here.
We arrived at the last minute hoping to pitch a tent for the night, but there were no sites left. The owner took pity on us and offered us a static caravan for the same price. That turned into a fantastic stay: everyone was incredibly welcoming, and the lake fed by a warm spring was a highlight. The place and its people are real gems. I can't recommend them enough.
