The hosts were very helpful and friendly, and their English is excellent. We enjoyed the restaurant twice, with impressive French food made from local ingredients. The rooms had comfortable beds and nice bathrooms and showers, plus individual heating controls. We spent two nights at Hotel Domaine de l'Eau Vive over Easter, a group of four adults, in a hotel set inside a beautifully restored silk factory in lovely countryside.

Our suite, number 33, had bathroom and toilet extractor fans that weren't working, and noise carried through the walls between suites. The terrace was pleasant for dinner and breakfast was good, but the pool and its unpleasant plastic furniture did nothing for us. The hotel should make it clear that it's very much geared toward families with young children everywhere, which is completely fine if that's what you're after. The property is a bit remote, and the entrance access is VERY narrow.

After finishing the six day Robert Louis Stevenson Trail, we were glad to unwind in the peaceful setting of l'eau Vive. The team made us feel very welcome, and the rooms were spacious and impeccably clean. We ate delicious meals and had an excellent breakfast. Tucked away in a hidden valley, this hotel is a restorative escape and deserves a place high on the list for anyone looking for a magical, away-from-it-all stay.

We came only for the restaurant, so I can't say anything about the rooms. The evening was perfect: lovely food at a fair price, a great atmosphere, and a sympathetic waiter. No complaints at all.

The food was sensational, with traditional ardechoise dishes every night we stayed. Thierry is a wonderful host, and there are great climbing spots nearby. Highly recommended if you're into good food, a relaxed host, and climbing.
