Mercure Le Mans Batignolles - Hôtel & Spa

This was comfortable and in line with what you'd expect from a hotel of this type. The food was average, but that wasn't a surprise, and there were no real problems. It worked well enough for a quick overnight stop, though I wouldn't expect anything special. They also couldn't fit two adults and two children into one room, which is why I'd give it three stars.

We found it easy enough to get to on our overnight drive from the UK to Spain. Dinner was a highlight: the steak was cooked just right and the sea bass was fresh. The breakfast buffet was tasty too, and being able to bring our dog into the restaurant was a nice extra.

We used the hotel for a night on the way to the ferry, and the family enjoyed the new swimming pool. The building looks as though it has been renovated in recent years, and we got a friendly welcome. Staff were happy to speak English. Since the hotel restaurant was closed on Sunday, we picked up Thai food from across the road and ate in the lobby. Le Mans old town is picturesque, so this would also make a good base for seeing the area.

For a short stop, it was fine, and the staff were friendly. I had my dog with me and there were no issues at check-in or during the stay. Still, I don't think it merits four stars, and the price felt high for what was offered. There was no minibar or free water, just hallway fountains that didn't look clean. The restaurant was closed while I was there.
