La Villa Du Chai

Didier was a huge help as we sorted out provisions for our canal boat trip. He tracked down the cardboard cartons we needed, the fruitier, wine from Gamm Verte of all places, and of course Carrefour. We’re grateful for the warm hospitality and for such a perfect start to our boating journey. The accommodation was immaculate, with elegant decor in greys, marble and silver, and a huge, very comfortable bed. Breakfast was terrific. Arelette had prepared just the cut fruit I like, strawberries, peaches and apple, without it being covered in passionfruit. Yay. Didier and Arelette are perfect hosts.

Didier and his wife, Arelette, were gracious hosts, and the rooms upstairs have been renovated fairly recently, just a few years ago. They’re spacious, with modern bathrooms and good air conditioning for hot summer days. There’s a kitchen on the same floor where they serve a lovely, healthy breakfast, or you can eat outside on the terrace. Parking right in front is free. La Villa Du Chai is on the main road into the town center, which is at most a 10 minute walk away. Don’t miss the large Wednesday market. If wine tasting is your thing, there are a few tasting rooms up the road across from the Lidl market. A few kilometers outside town, you’ll also find proper wine chateaux where you can arrange a visit. Didier can suggest some names if you need them.

We were biking the Canal du Midi as a group of Kiwis, and this was a lovely place to stay along the way. The host was charming and helpful, and breakfast was the best we had in France, maybe ever. The place is spotless and charming, with great views from the upstairs rooms and everything we needed.

Breakfast out on the terrace was a real treat, and the host was both charming and helpful. Our room was spacious and spotless too. We’d happily pick this place again next time we’re in the region.
