Hotel Chagnot

For a three-star hotel, this is good value. The location is great for getting around, and the rooms are small but very clean and comfortable for this standard. The bathroom was good too. Shame there was only one tea bag each and nothing else.

The rooftop terrace at breakfast was a real highlight, especially in the morning sun. There’s a good range of typical French breakfast food. I wouldn’t recommend the scrambled eggs, which seemed like the usual carton kind, but the salami and jams more than made up for them. The staff were really friendly and helpful. Rooms are nothing special and reminded me a bit of Ibis Budget hotels, but they’re perfectly adequate for a night. The location is excellent, about a 10-minute walk to Lille Europe and just a minute across the street from Lille Flandres. I’d happily stay here again if I come back to Lille.

We had a really nice stay over Braderie weekend. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and everything went smoothly. Breakfast is well worth buying, especially for the amazing view over the square to start the day.

We stayed for five nights and were mostly happy. The staff were consistently kind and cheerful, and housekeeping made the bed, changed towels, emptied the bin, and replenished the coffee and tea each day. The room was clean, and prices compared favourably with nearby hotels. It’s very convenient for train or bus travel, with everything within walking distance. The double room was quite tiny, though, with little space for clothes or other things. The bed was narrower than we’d like, so my wife and I kept bumping into each other while asleep. A fridge would’ve been nice too, but those are mostly small gripes. I’d recommend staying here.
