Moulin de Mombreux

We left and checked into Najeti Hotel up the road, even though we'd already paid. It felt like a completely different world, with good facilities and a hotel that seemed interested in its customers. I later contacted the owner of the Moulin de Mombreaux about a refund and got no reply. To me, that says a lot about how little he cares about guests. This hotel is on the route to Calais and gets passing trade, so avoid it unless paper sheets and a duvet cover sound fine to you. If the rest of the place is like reception, it's a very dirty hotel. We arrived around 16.00, when reception was closed, as it is every afternoon. Luckily, or maybe unluckily, a staff member was around and checked us into room number 1. The reception area was a pigsty, the biggest mess I've ever seen in one. As soon as my wife and I entered the room, we looked at each other and knew we'd made a big mistake booking here. She didn't want me to make a fuss, so we went out for coffee. The hotel had nothing available, so we went elsewhere. When we got back, I asked for a different room, but there were none. The guy at reception asked what was wrong, so I asked him to come and see. Wallpaper was hanging off the wall, the room was dark and smelled damp, and the carpets were stained. Then I saw paper sheets and a paper duvet. The shower room with disabled facilities was old and dirty, too. I decided to leave. Hotels can make mistakes, but how they deal with them matters. The owner of the Moulin de Mombreaux doesn't seem interested in guests.

The staff were really friendly and helpful, and the food and wine were excellent. This place is a gem. I'd highly recommend staying here before continuing on into Europe, or for your last night in France before driving home.

The location was peaceful, and the restaurant and breakfast were great. It was just what we wanted.
