Appartéo Lyon 7 Jean Jaurès

We chose it for one August night to break up a long drive. It’s a very basic hotel, cheap compared with others in the area. The room has a stovetop and fridge freezer, though cooking utensils are limited. The bed was really uncomfortable because you roll into the middle, and there’s no air conditioning. On the plus side, it’s well placed for public transport, including trains and the monorail, and the car park is easy, convenient, and free. Breakfast was pretty good, with lots of choice when we went at 8am. The Wi-Fi was great, and the staff were really friendly. Check-in and checkout were super easy.

The room was basic but clean, huge, and more than affordable. It had all the cooking facilities, which is handy if you don’t want to eat out or just want to make tea. The bathroom was spacious, too, and breakfast was great. The TV didn’t work, but we weren’t in Lyon to watch TV.

The room was very clean, the staff were good, breakfast was excellent, and the parking was secure and free. The bed was a little uncomfortable, and the Wi-Fi was terrible when it worked at all. There’s no air conditioning, so you have to leave the window open, but it’s beside a huge building site. On weekdays, cranes dropping things on the floor woke us early, at 7:30am! It’s basic, cheap accommodation, just as advertised, and still a decent budget stop on Euro 16 travels. Lyon itself is a great city.

The room reeked of cigarette smoke, despite being advertised as non-smoking. We asked to change rooms and were refused, then asked for a refund and were refused again. They wouldn’t even give us extra blankets, so we had to sleep with the window open in 2 degree weather. The hotel was unhelpful and the customer service was poor. Maybe smoking in Lyon hotels is the ‘norm’, but it’s not acceptable to us when it’s advertised as ‘non-smoking’. This ruined our Europe trip. We’re very upset, angry, and disappointed, and the hotel won’t take responsibility or compensate us. Stay clear of this hotel!
