B&B HOTEL Lyon Centre Part-Dieu Gambetta

For a short stop, the location worked really well. It’s a short walk to the city centre, with shops, restaurants, and the train station there, so it suits people passing through. We found a channel in English on the TV eventually, and the bed was fairly comfortable, though the pillows were small and there was only one each. The breakfast was more than enough, with cereals, yoghurts, juice, and coffee. Staff were very friendly and helpful, even recommending restaurants and keeping our bags after checkout. I’d recommend b&b hotels for a short stay and would definitely come back based on the location and staff.

The hotel is good value for the price, with a baggage room available and clean room and bathroom. Desk staff gave us a warm welcome. The metro is very close and only 3-4 stops from the city center and old town; there’s also a big pharmacy and a few restaurants within walking distance. A couple of things bothered me. We were 15-20 mins late checking out, and housekeeping was already in the room carrying our personal belongings out. That felt disturbing. At this price level, slippers should be provided, since they’re more than necessary. There’s no refrigerator, though that didn’t matter to us. Thanks to all the hotel staff.

The receptionists were welcoming, and the staff were really friendly to my dog. But the heating didn’t work, so the room was very cold. Maintenance checked on the second day but couldn’t fix it, and we were given a portable heater. The toilet room walls were disgusting, with brown spots all over the side of the toilet and an unpleasant smell. Breakfast was exactly the same every day, and we were already bored of it by day three. We asked to cancel it for the rest of our stay, but couldn’t because we’d booked with breakfast.

The hotel was clean but worn down, with paint and nice accessories used in an attempt to modernise it. The neighbourhood is busy and unattractive, with no attractions. My room wasn’t ready when I arrived at 12:30pm, and eventually I asked to change rooms because the first-floor window could be reached from outside. I’d give the place no more than 3-3.5 stars.
